About MESO+

Maternal mental health is not a luxury

MESO+ exists to protect mothers in East Africa from the silent burden of postpartum depression, by embedding evidence-based risk screening directly into the care they already receive.

Our Mission

MESO+ exists to protect mothers in East Africa from the silent burden of postpartum depression. We partner with maternity facilities to embed evidence-based risk screening directly into postnatal care, so every mother at risk is identified early and connected to support before a crisis develops.

The healthcare system closest to a new mother is the most powerful tool we have for early intervention.

Our Vision

A future where postpartum depression is no longer a hidden epidemic in East Africa, because every maternity facility has the tools, the data, and the clinical confidence to act early.

The Problem

A hidden epidemic: treatable, yet unseen

Postpartum depression affects an estimated 1 in 5 mothers globally. In sub-Saharan Africa prevalence exceeds 20%, yet the condition remains vastly under-identified and undertreated.

The gap is not awareness.
It is infrastructure.

  • No screening reaches most mothersNot because providers don't care. Validated, affordable, contextual tools simply aren't embedded into standard care.
  • Bonding & child development sufferUntreated depression disrupts maternal-infant bonding and impairs early childhood development.
  • An invisible burden on familiesThe weight falls silently on families and whole communities, yet the condition is treatable when caught early.
Our Values

How we build

Evidence first

Every feature, claim, and clinical recommendation we embed is grounded in peer-reviewed science.

Responsibility before scale

We won't deploy MESO+ to screen real mothers until the legal, ethical, and clinical pathways in each country are fully confirmed.

Built with, not for

Co-designed with the mothers, nurses, and clinicians who will use it, never imposed on communities we haven't listened to.

Africa-led

Founded and led by African women, for African healthcare systems. We are not importing a solution. We are building one from within.

Let's protect mothers, together

Whether you run a maternity facility, lead research, or want to support the mission, we'd love to hear from you.
